Adam and Eve Had a Great Relationship With God
Adam and Eve, as we all know are the first people created on earth. It’s from that point on that many things are left unsaid and up for speculation. Of course, I’m referring to the one and only source that tells us these things – THE BIBLE.
Adam and Eve: Created
So If we examine the text, this is what we find:
In Genesis 2:7, The NIV Bible says: “7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
the first man, named Adam was created. The interesting thing about Adam’s name is what Adam means in Hebrew – “mankind”. The noun ‘Adam is also the masculine form of the word Adamah which means “ground” or “earth”. It’s very fitting how he was named and that he is called the start of mankind and created through the dirt.
God commanded Adam to work and care for the earth in the following verses and also decides that it is not good for man to be alone and after putting Adam in a deep sleep, creates a woman from his rib bone. Adam calls her woman because she is “now bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh” Genesis 2:23.
The name “Eve” means “Source of life” in Greek. She was also called “Eve” because she would be the mother of all living. There are many other meanings to her name that can be found on Wikipedia, but the main reason I’m writing this is to go over a few points of what happened in the Garden of Eden, not to discus meanings of names.
One question I have had now for a while is this. Do you think that God was walking in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve – just as the serpent was when he spoke with Eve about the tree of good and evil? I believe that God was on Earth at that time before the fall. There are a few reasons I think this.
Adam and Eve – Created for Relationship
I know it’s tough for each of us to think about how it must have been to be God in the beginning. We assume that he was all by himself and only had the angels and at that time, Lucifer was the head music leader of praise and worship in Heaven. I think that God wanted to create mankind to form a relationship with us. He is a God of love and relationship.
Adam and Eve – The Fall
When the serpent was speaking to Eve, he was placing doubt into her mind about the intention of God. This is something that even today – the enemy is successful in doing to not just Christians, but to all the masses. When Eve decided that it feels good and tastes good to eat of the tree of good and evil, she decided that her counterpart, Adam needed to do the same. This is when the fall of mankind was complete, and needed a savior. I believe that because of God’s character and His heart, YHWH was very saddened to have to kick mankind out of the Garden of Eden, which by the way literally means “Garden of Paradise”.
When God asked Adam and Eve, “where are you?” Adam said in Genesis 3:10 to YHWH, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” This implies that God was walking among his creation with Adam and Eve. How awesome is that!!! This is something that will not happen until after the 1000 year reign when Heaven and Earth come crashing together and God lives with us for eternity!
One last thing that I see happening even in today’s world. It started in the beginning and that is the blame game. As you read Genesis 3:11-13, you see that God asks why Adam and Eve knew they were naked and they start blaming the other person for making them do something that they did. Sound familiar with practically anyone in government these days? It’s nothing new, as you can see. The blame game is as new as the creation of Adam and Eve! We see these things in our relationships today on a daily basis. Sad but true.
