Recently, through my searching the internet for something cool to learn or watch. I found this cool video where Mythbusters researches the ingredients of coffee creamer.
The Premise of this episode put by one of the insiders 🙂
If everything goes right, and…umm…and that stuff goes up in the air – and it actually ignites, we could set this whole hillside on fire!
So what was he talking about? (forgive me for not knowing his name)
NON-DAIRY COFFEE CREAMER!!
Does Non-Dairy Creamer Explode? Watch to find out Click To Tweet
Right off the bat, we see that this contains corn syrup solids. Any product containing corn should be strictly avoided, as more than 90% of the corn in North America is genetically modified. Corn sweetener products have a proven link to obesity.
Sodium Caseinate: Modified milk product with the lactose removed (this is how they can call this non-dairy). It is a source of free glutamic acid (MSG), a neurotoxin.
Artificial Flavors: According to Foodfacts.com, the FDA does not require that manufacturers disclose the chemicals and ingredients combined to create “artificial flavors” as they are “trade secrets.” The website gives an example: “ A typical artificial flavor contains over 30 chemicals. According to manufacturer safety data sheets those chemicals cause eye irritation, corneal damage, eye burns, skin irritation, severe / permanent damage to digestive tract, gastrointestinal irritation, gastrointestinal tract burns, CNS depression, neurological effects, liver abnormalities, cardiac abnormalities, or other harm.”
Not only are the ingredients above highly questionable, but when combined, non-dairy creamer is highly flammable….observe, the creamer cannon, made using only non-dairy creamer, compressed air, and a flare.
Now that’s gotta tell you something about what you are putting in your coffee!!
Some…well actually MANY have said – “But I like – NOOOOO! – Love my coffee.”
Perhaps there are alternatives to the non-dairy stuff. I have many resources but the one that I really like is…
Both my wife, Jessica and I prefer the purple coconut creamer as the flavor has fewer calories per serving.
So that’s the down low on coffee creamers from a guy who doesn’t have a bunch of choices to those that want to make much better choices in what they use in their coffee.
I’m sure that Mythbusters purposely skipped the, “What’s better to put in your coffee” episode. On a serious note, when we are buying things at the grocery store, we are trusting that there selling us things that are good for us. Unless, of course, its stuff like candy. we know that we can indulge in candy occasionally.
Trusting The Marketplace
How does a customer know they can trust the grocery stores products? Recently, there’s been a resurgence of more healthy food and getting that food labeled as such.
The labeling is going to be key in giving us, the consumer more clarity in what we are buying.
So now that you have information on this go use it and tell me what you think.
